The Pony Express. The Mormon Trail. The Hastings Cutoff. The Overland Trail. The Transcontinental Telegraph. The Transcontinental Railroad. All meet where the Rocky Mountains give way to the Great Basin in Utah. It is no wonder that the state is known as “The Crossroads of the West,” and from this crucial junction sprouted a network of railroads stretching from Northern Oregon to Southern California and Colorado to Nebraska, reaching into isolated mining camps and shuttling commuters from the suburbs to the cities.
Based on this rich heritage, the Western Crossroads Railway Museum is established to develop a working hands-on transportation museum and curate a world-class archive of documents and photographs relating to the railroad industry in Utah.
